I became a member of recycling about 25 years ago when I discovered that my friends who came from wealthy families spent all of their parent’s hard earned money on designer clothing. Back then I was a poor student paying my way through design school at Ray Vogue Fashion College. Since money did not want to hang out with me much during those days, I often shopped at the thrift store. Since I was a Fashion Design Major, I would embellish and redesign the clothes that I purchased and no one was ever the wiser. The majority of the students in my class came from wealthy families and it wasn’t cool back then to brag about getting something from the thrift store. For that reason I never shared where I got my clothing from, but I did made sure that they would definitely elicit a, "Where did you buy that?" response. Today that has definitely changed and recycling has become fashionable! Mother Earth depends on it to survive and everyone needs to be an agent of change. Al Gore, VP during the Clinton era, is on a constant speaking campaign about Global Warming and has since participated in a documentary called An Inconvenient Truth for which he received the Nobel Peace Award.
